Hi everybody,
Since many of us want to plant their own herbs, I thought we could open a thread to share trustworthy resources, and also share seeds.
From my own experience (I had to learn it the hard way) it is not that easy to get the correct species, if a nursery has had no previous experience with medicinal plants. I usually like to buy locally but ended up looking across borders for plants and seeds I could not get from friends or seed exchanges (or sometimes from the wild, if there was a big enough patch).
Here are my two trusted sources of organically grown medicinal plant seeds and plants:
Europe:
Poyntzfield Herb Nursery in Scotland, UK:
https://www.poyntzfieldherbs.co.uk/
They carry a large range of European, American and Asian Herbs and have an excellent knowledge of Scottish ethnobotany. They also carry organically grown plants that are rare, near extinct or endangered in other countries, like goldenseal, bog myrtle (sweet gale), etc. Most of the plants they grow are wild forms, so you can still get a peony there that will seed...
US:
Strictly Medicinal Seeds in Oregon (former Horizon Herbs):
https://strictlymedicinalseeds.com/
This is Richo Cech´s company, who in my opinion wrote some excellent books on herbal medicine. Extremely wide range of medicinals plants and seeds. They also tell you the “how to” and send fresh seed, if the seed has to get into the ground immediately and not dried. Excellent customer service.
Sadly they don´t ship to Europe anymore due to too many restrictions.
I am very happy to share any seeds from my garden with you, too!
Happy growing -
Annette
