Hello Eileen! In our first class earlier this month, someone asked a question about dry eyes and David referred us to an "EENT handout" that he said we all should have. I looked and can't seem to find a class or a handout where we specifically went over EENT herbs or clinical studies (he was referring to three herbs used in clinical studies on dry eyes -- goji berry being one and he couldn't think of the other two but said they'd be in the handout). Would you happen to know which handout he was referring to? (I looked in the class on allergies and didn't see it there either...) Thank you! Donna

Hey Donna, If you took the Therapeutics program you've received that class...here's the info on dry eye syndrome. Dry Eye Syndrome Dry Eye Syndrome is associated with aging (post-menopausal women have the highest incidence of this condition), some autoimmune diseases (especially Sjogren’s Syndrome), dry air exposure, wearing contact lenses, vitamin D or B-12 deficiency, long-term viewing of computer screens, and some pharmaceutical medications (antihistamines, atropine, tranquilizers, opioids, scopolamine, THC, beta blockers, diuretics, etc.). Common symptoms include dry, gritty, irritated eyes, redness, pain or itching and light sensitivity, Several herbs, herbal formulas or supplements have been shown to reduce dry eye, including Goji berry, Qi Ju Di Huang Wan/Lycium-Rehmannia tea pills (Lou, et al, 2020), Omega 3 fatty acids/fish oil (Griannaccare, et al, 2019), vitamin E (Riva, et al, 2017), Chrysanthemum flower, Mulberry fruit, Ligustrum fruit/Nu Zhen Zi, vitamin A (Alanazi, et al, 2019), vitamin D (Yang, et al, 2018), and vitamin B-12 (Ozen, et al, 2017). In addition, lubricating eye drops, adequate hydration, using humidifiers in dry homes, and avoiding excessive eye strain, cigarette smoke, dry air or dust can be useful.
