Night blooming cereus use by Physiomedicalists

Hi David, I was so interested to see the Physiomedicalist pair of Hawthorn and Night blooming cereus. Is this where the cactus was first used in Western herbalism? How did they learn of its uses? Is there an ethnobotanical history? Where can I find out more? Thank you, Jessa

Both the eclectics and Physiomedicalists used “Cactus”, I am not sure which used it first. The best information the history of this plant for medicinal uses is the Lloyd Brothers Drug Treatise by Lloyd, J.U. A Treatise on Cactus grandiflorus, Lloyd Brothers, 1908. I thought I would find a copy on google but it does not seem to be there. I am sure for a nominal fee the Lloyd Library in Cincinnati would make a copy for you.
