A 41-year old woman in general good health had a mini-stroke about 2 years ago due to an unknown birth defect of a hole in her heart. She has had surgery and mostly recovered. The only symptom remaining, which the doctor said may go away once the heart is fully healed or may continue forever, is an extra heart-beat. He said it was harmless but prescribed her metropolol. He has advised her she can go off the medication and she is currently at a very low dose. However she has a fear of a reoccurrence of the extra heart-beat so she would like to find a potential herb that may perform a similar function as low dose metropolol. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you.

Perhaps Motherwort and Lemon Balm, along with some Hawthorn, both Melissa and Leonurus are used for PVC’s, extra systoles and mild arrhythmias .
