When you said that you did not like glycerin formulations, are these formulations that use glycerin to tincture instead of alcohol?

Glycerites are not tinctures, they are glycerin extracts, and as I said in class they not only do not enhance absorption (as does alcohol), they only extract water soluble constituents, so many herbs do not make effective glycerites. In general they are also at least 25-35% weaker than a alcohol tincture and require significantly higher doses.

How do you feel about simmering alcohol tinctures and then adding glycerin ?

I think it’s a terrible idea. First off, you destroy all the heat sensitive constituents by simmering. The alcohol soluble constituents do not go into solution in the glycerin and sink to the bottom of the bottle and only with incredibly vigorous shaking do they get distributed back into your product, so I think it’s a bad idea.

Yikes! Then how do you make your glycerin formulations for children and pets from alcohol tinctures?

I don’t, assuming you are talking about H & A’s products, they only make glycerites out of herbs that make good glycerin extracts, there is no alcohol involved
