I was reviewing the St. John's Wort materia medica sheet and the note about its efficacy for "hepatic or GI-induced depression" caught my attention. I've always been curious about the gut-brain connection and would love to know how/why St. John's is especially indicated here. I've often wondered if GI upset causes anxiety-like symptoms (or sensations that resemble anxiety), knowing that of course anxiety can create GI issues. Depression connections though (aside from the synthesis of serotonin in the gut and the importance of diet for mental health) I'm less familiar with.
Also curious if you speak more about GI-induced anx/depression in this or the grad course?
Thank you!
