Hello Dr Wendy Dr Dale Bredesen has an impressive protocol to stop and reverse dementia which I’m sure you’re familiar with -ReCODE protocol. There is one part that I’ve always wondered about. He recommends even in postmenopausal age to keep E2 between 50-250 pg/ml and progesterone between 1-20 ng/ml. What do you think about that recommendation in light of pros and cons of HRT? Thank you! Adam

Wendy said: Yes, it's the one piece of that protocol that I disagree with. In fact, at an annual meeting for IFM, I actually did a talk about pros and cons of this part of the protocol, because there are clearly women who should NOT be on hrt. That being said, Dr Bredesen thinks there are some women who are willing to risk breast cancer, etc, in order to avoid Alzheimers.

I wonder if there are studies that show that the estrogen and progesterone levels he is suggesting reduce the risk of Alzheimer's and what the Hazard Ratio is.

She said: In SOME individuals with specific snp's (genetic mutations) that put them at higher than typical risk of Alzheimer's, then it can make sense. Unless of course that individual also has markers for breast cancer!
