Andrew said: Very basic kitchari protocol: Find a recipe based upon your constitution and/or disease state (rice, moong lentils, spices, a type of fat, some veggies). For this, you would need to take a quiz to learn about your constitution (vata/pitta/kapha). Banyan botanicals has a decent ayurvedic constitution quiz free on-line. There are many books on ayurvedic diet. For example: Usha Lad "Ayurvedic Cooking for Self Healing". Harish Johari has a book called "Dhanvantari" that has a nice chapter on cleansing and fasting. The cleansing I am referring to is a mono-fast (eating only one food- the exact same food and drink every day for x number of days). Which food you select depends upon many factors such as season, constitution, and disease state. For example, in the early fall/late summer I often do an apple and water fast, in the winter I love kitchari, in summer I do a salad recipe with spices and water (I am pitta and can handle raw foods very well, many people can't). So, the final answer is that I can't give you my recipe because my recipe is for me! I suggest that you learn more about the general concepts of mono-fasting and then play with things until you find the strategy that works for you (the bio-psycho-social-spiritual INDIVIDUAL). Individuality is what makes herbal medicine such a beautiful art! If you still need guidance after trying these resources, please ask the question in the Intro to Ayurveda class in the spring and I can talk a bit more about it then.
