Hi David, Thank you for such a nice class this evening. I have a question for you regarding Eastern Cherokee Ethnobotany. I notice that the lens for which this information is presented is very Western. On each slide there are native medicinal plants used for particular ailments without consideration for the whole person. However, must we assume that because the Cherokee culture views disease as a product of the spirit, society and community as a whole it also points to their worldview as being one of interconnectedness? So if a society historically believes in interconnectedness but their traditional healing methods do not present in this manner is it safe to assume it may have once been there? You led the discussion stating that there was a lot of information obviously lost or not collected ("the anthros are coming"). Can we assume that Cherokee medicine must have been coupled with a healing system of interconnectedness much like TCM or Ayurveda? I am just curious what your thoughts are.
