Brandy as a mensturm

I have seen some tinctures in my community with brandy as the menstrum. Curious what you think of this and if its just as effective? thx

For the most part no, tinctures should always be made with 190 proof alcohol and water, so you can adjust the menstruum from 27.5 % ETOH to 90% depending on the herb you are tincturing. To use Brandy or Vodka, you are stuck with whatever proof it is. It only works if the herb you are tincturing needs alcohol percentage of the Brandy (or Vodka).
