Hello! I'm wondering if there are herbs that move blood (blood stagnation) but do not encourage the menses or make it heavier. It seems like we may have talked about this in class, but I'm just not sure. My tongue shows signs of blood stagnation with dark purplish-blue protruding veins underneath and there is a slight purplish-blue color to the middle/back of my tongue. However, I have medium to heavy periods with a 23-day cycle and do not want to make this worse. Could these blood stagnation signs be cold signs instead and if so, is it still considered blood stagnation? Thank you!

Most herbs that move blood do not make menstrual bleeding worse (Dang Gui is an exception). Yes, your tongue may indicate cold rather than stagnation although cold tends to cause things to slow and coagulate (stagnate). Ginger might be a good choice it is warming and in a human study it reduced excessive menstrual bleeding .
