Bacopa as Spleen Qi Tonic

Hi David, for this week's case MH I was trying to think of herbs for Deficient Spleen Qi. For our case from 3/08/22, BD, you used bacopa and cited as a reason for use that it was a bitter tonic (deficient spleen qi). I see on the MM sheet it says bitter but nothing about it being a ST/SP tonic, nor does it have ST/SP as a triune classification. Is the fact that it helps with deficient spleen qi purely a result of it being bitter? Could anything bitter be considered for deficient spleen qi? Thank you, Jessa

In most cases yes, unless the herb has some other quality that would make it inappropriate for def Sp qi I can’t think of an example, but I am sure there is some exception to the rule of bitter is useful for def. spleen qi
