1. Most western herbalist use Equisetum arvense, but some substitute E. hyemale for it. The E. hyemlae is also used in TCM for wind-heat conditions causing red eyes, eye pain and excessive tearing (orally).
2. The leaf, flower and root bark are used, they are gathered when at their prime (the root bark in the autumn), yes you cn transplant the rosettes early in the spring.
3. The leaf, soft on the top surface, like sandPaper on the bottom (or vice versa, i forget), the leaf shape is also distinctive.
