David mentioned in class that ashwaghanda is not good for a person with Graves. Can you please expound on that? Thank you.

Ashwagandha stimulates the thyroid, so it is inappropriate for conditions with a hyperactive thyroid (i.e. Graves disease).

Is it recommended, then, that someone with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, who is taking synthetic thyroid replacement, and starts to take ashwagandha should have thyroid levels monitored? (and may be able to lower meds possible)?

If someone is on synthroid (or other thyroid hormone meds) and their TSH is below 2.5 I would not give them Ashwagandha. If it is still above that range then I would cautiously use Ashwagandha, but yes you will need to regularly monitor TSH levels.
