I've read somewhere that one should use caution with using adaptogens and autoimmune conditions. Can you provide and opinion on this, such as using ashwagandha and hashimotos? Would it activate the immune system too much? What should one avoid in hashimotos? Thank you

This is mostly untrue, the amount of misinformation about herbs and adaptogens in particular is astounding. Many (but not all) adaptogens are immune amphoterics and help re-regulate a disordered immune system. So they can be very appropriate for autoimmune conditions. But as we have said in class many times, you have to determine if the herbs is appropriate for the person, not just the disease. But something like Ashwagandha is superb for Hashimoto’s but is CI for Graves disease .
