I am interested in using Collinsonia canadensis for hemorrhoid pain and anal fissures, taking into account the person’s constitution and symptomatology. When the pain is severe, in your experience, is it better to: Introduced in a formula in very small doses for general treatment, or Given separately in drops when pain is acute? Also, your notes mention fresh Collinsonia is most effective. If only dried plant is available in Europe, should the dose be increased to compensate?

David said: increasing the dose will not help, it will just be very drying. Collinsonia is not for hemorrhoidal pain as much as helping to enhance tonus of the rectal blood vessels and shrink the hemorrhoids. It works best for hemorrhoids of a recent origen and in combination with other appropriate herbs. Rectal fissures need to be treated locally (i.e a rectal suppository).
