Do you have any general recommendations for folks that have panic attacks and severe anxiety following a traumatic experience? I'm wondering less about herb recommendations because of potential drug/herb interactions and more about resources that you have found useful for your patients in this general situation.

Yes, my general formula is 2 parts Bacopa, 2 parts Motherwort, 1 part Blue Vervain, 1 part Chinese Polygala, 2-4 drops Pulsatilla (per dose).  As for herb drug onteractions, it depends on what the person is taking, as to whether there could be an issue or not.  The formula is often altered depending on the specifics on the person and their case.

Can you explain why you would want to use a febrifuge at all? I know you were saying that if the fever is over 102 degrees F and they feel cold, then the fever will increase and you should use a febrifuge. Why wouldn’t you want the fever to break? I can understand with the very young and elderly but for most folks wouldn’t you want to encourage the fever?

Oops I asked a new question (the one above) in the wrong place! I do have a follow up question though: about the general panic attack/anxiety formula that you provided. Should this be taken as a prophylactic? or as needed? what would a dose look like and what do you mean about 2-4 drops of pulsatilla per dose? Perhaps you blend the other herbs as the formula and take 2-4 drops of pulsatilla simple each dose?

Fever management is an art, if the temperature is already high say 102.5 or higher and the person has chills, it means the body wants the temperature to go higher, which can be dangerous, so in that case you use a febrifuge(antipyretic) to bring down the temperature. A diaphoretic will cause an increase and it may be too much in some situations

Since there are 2 different questions on this thread, I'm going to separate my follow up questions: 1- in response to your fever management response- I understand that when the fever is about 102.5 and the person has chills, it could be dangerous, but I'm curious as to why it's dangerous. I've heard that it could cause tissue damage, but that seems so vague. 2- As a follow up question about the general panic attack/anxiety formula that you provided. Should this be taken as a prophylactic? or as needed? what would a dose look like and what do you mean about 2-4 drops of pulsatilla per dose? Perhaps you blend the other herbs as the formula and take 2-4 drops of pulsatilla simple each dose?
