Heavy metal toxicity in the brain, neurodegeneration, and possible remediation?

Hi David, I have stumbled across articles describing heavy metal toxicity in the brain being a factor in developing Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Besides limiting exposure if possible via occupation, etc. are there any ways to remove heavy metals from the brain. Would it be better to strengthen the blood brain barrier due to gaps from damage via metal exposure, etc. oxidative stress, etc.? Or would that be a vicious circle so to speak due to chronic or unidentified exposure? I have read there are other methods of transfer across the BBB to the CNS such as lipophilicity and metal transporters, etc. Is there an herbal protocol to bring metals back past the BBB to be eliminated through detox channels in the peripheral system? Is the metal accumulation theory toward neurological disease a commonly held concern to remediate? Are there any herbs and/or supplements you would recommend and/or pharmaceuticals? It does not seem they are the primary contributing factors for either Alzheimers or Parkinson (pesticide exposure seems to be a greater factor for this). There are certainly substances that can help promote excretion of various heavy metals including selenium, zinc, apple pectin, garlic, calcium, ground ivy, etc. Whether they can also decrease these compounds from the brain is mostly (if not entirely) untested.
