What can be done for someone with achlorhydria? is it a matter of looking at the diet and changing the diet? can the stomach acid be stimulated by an herb or something so your body will start to produce more acid? if someone has been taking antiacids for decades for heartburn and GERDS like symptoms and now needs to take stool softens with every meal, is there a point at which too much damage has been done?

David said: The best way to treat hypochlorhydria is bitters and my favorite herb for stimulating gastric HCl is orange peel. Some people take betaine HCl, but the body really has a use it or lose it response. Bitters will also enhance bowel function, and soluble fiber should help eliminate the need for still softeners.
