I have a client with choroidal neovascularization (CNV) that is being treated with antiVEGF injections. She is young and is not diabetic. Her physicians are presuming the origin is POHS (presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome) from a childhood exposure. There is no bleeding. In your EEN article you say "TCM treatments for poor vision, painful eyes, red inflamed eyes, excessive tearing, floaters, and ophthalmic hemorrhages are treated with “liver herbs” such as Goji berry, Buddleia flowers, Mulberry fruit, Dodder seed, Cassia tora seed and Chrysanthemum flowers." Any thoughts about why it might NOT be good to strengthen eye capillaries in a case like this? I don't understand why the blood vessels are growing where they shouldn't be and want to offer things that makes sense. I am using turmeric already as part of a larger formula that addresses Chinese spleen and Chinese liver and other health concerns as well. Thank you!

I am not sure, there is no information about this, but I personally do not think Blueberry, Goji Berry or Chrysanthemum would make it worse. CNV is caused by increased VEGF production and some herbs have been shown to inhibit VEGF including Huang Qin, Japanese Knotweed, Turmeric, Milk Thistle, Dang Gui, Green Tea, Mistletoe, Sweet Annie, Black Seed and supplements including grape seed extract, quercetin, here is a link to an article on herbs and supplement that have anti-angiogenic effects and inhibit VEGF
