Hi, David--Alexander Mauskop, a neurologist who started the New York Headache Center, has a free book out called The End of Migraines, 150 Ways to Stop Your Pain. He has just published a second edition, and it's a compact, information-packed resource which includes many non-pharmacological and natural medicine remedies. What it doesn't do is try and get at the cause, I guess because there are many, many triggers. You did a good job in your class trying to dig down to the causes. Anyway, in the book (and in his online blog) he clears up a couple of misconceptions about migraines. First of all, many migraines are not just on one side of the head, though they may begin in one area (eg. the forehead) and spread to the entire head, and secondly, medication overuse headaches are not common with the standard migraine drugs, according to the writer's extensive experience. He differs from many neurologists in saying this.

I will check out his book, I did not mean to say in class that the headaches were only one side, they usually start on one side and then often spread as Mentioned to the eye, or top of the head. As for medication over use headaches there is a a lot of literature on the problem, so perhaps he does not see it because he treats differently ?
