Hi David! Congrats on receiving your award! Certainly a nice recognition of many years of fostering herbal education, especially in the NJ/PA local community. :) I've got TONS of barberries in my backyard that I'd like to experiment with making the tincture of both the root bark and the berry, seprately. The barberry tincture calls for 1:5 at 30% ETOH but that’s probably for the bark. Should we use the same amount for making the berry tincture? Also, these roots are narrow but may be 1/4" in diameter. Would you dry them in a dehydrator whole or cut them lengthwise? Thank you! Nina

On my Barberry MM sheet it says Barberry is tinctured at 1:5, 60 % ETOH for the root , the berries would be 1:5 30 % ETOH. the roots should be cut and then cried. If you leave them whole you will not be able to grind them before you tincture them.
