Why is Slippery Elm CI'd in achlorhydric people? As a GI demulcent, wouldn't this be beneficial (also high fiber/prebiotic)? I'm also wondering if the lozenges are an adequate way to take if the goal is to bulk stool? I'm curious about the answers to these questions in general but am specifically thinking about someone who has occasional fecal incontinence (likely due to no gall bladder) and who is also likely achlorhydric (elderly). Thank you!

David said: It is a prebiotic, but Slippery Elm absorbs stomach acid and reduces gastric acidity.
