I have a client who is interested in using the H&A Men's Adapt formula. He is 76, mildly overweight but otherwise active, eats well, and no longer drinks alcohol. Men's Adapt for quick reference --> ((Ashwagandha root (Withania somnifera), Cynomorium stem (Cynomorium songaricum), Maca root (Lepidium meyenii), Red Ginseng root (Panax ginseng), Epimedium herb (Epimedium grandiflorum)). He is currently taking a statin (Rosuvastatin), blood thinner (Clopidogrel), and amlodipine for hypertention. Looking at the MMs for the various herbs in the formula, it looks like the Red Ginseng could have a potential risk for contraindication but likely ok with supervision, and the rest are OK for his indications. He is looking to use the formula to help with libido and decreased sexual function. I was thinking of recommending this formula along with a standard extract of milk thistle, to reduce the liver risk of the Clopidogrel and amlodipine combo, but wanted your thoughts if the Men's Adapt was a good idea for this particular client. I'm still hesitant to make recommendations for clients with narrow therapeutic index drugs, since they are higher risk. I would appreciate your guidance and thoughts on this recommendation.

David said: It is probably fine, I don’t worry about statins at all, the amlopidine, shouldn't be an issue, the Clopidogrel is the trickier one. None of these medications are considered a narrow therapeutic index drug. I would start at a very low dose and gradually increase dosage. If possible a platelet aggregation test to check on platelet aggregation would not be a bad idea.
